call me old fashioned.

isn't it nice to know that after all these years,
and all the adventures i have put myself through,
and all the heart stopping chances i have taken...
i am still the girl who can't talk to the boy first.

it might be time to figure out what to do about this.

b&w of the week.

ooohhh wwhhhheeeee!!!
this week was full of tons of besties and tons of worsties.
i couldn't choose between them all so i figured i would just throw 'em at ya to make your own decisions.
happy sunday!

best dressed:
 cate blanchett
i think she is the best dressed woman in hollywood.
so there's that.

helen mirren.
does she ever age?

 naya rivera.
love the tweed fabric mixed with this season's hot trend: metallic pumps.

 rose byrne.
obsessed with the detailing and THOSE SHOES!

worst dressed:
 heidi klum.
i think my 3rd grade teacher owned those shoes and that dress is 50 shades of i don't think so.

rosario dawson.
well, she tried with the metallic pumps, but apparently not with anything else.

selena gomez.
let's chalk this up to she turned 21 this week and is clearly hungover and leave it at that.

best dressed family:
 kate, william & baby george.
ummm yah, like you didn't see this one coming.

birthday hangover.

last night we celebrated lil' bro's birthday in epic style.
meaning red robin.
we ate lots of food.
had lots of laughs.
and opened presents.

a funny thing about me is i LOVE giving presents.
like a kid in a candy store, i just never get over that feeling that wells up in your tummy when a person you love so dear is opening a gift you picked out for them.
it's kind of nerdy...but it is what it is.
jameson has wanted a sidney crosby, winter classic jersey for as long as i can remember.
for those of you not familiar with hockey, he is the best player in the game today.
sid the kid.
he was shooting pucks into his basement dryer at 2 years old.
there is nothing in the game he doesn't do perfectly.
and could potentially give wayne gretzky a run for him money in a show down.
they call wayne the great one.
they call sidney the next one.

women love him because he looks a little something like this:
and can be found attending wild and crazy events like:
your local justin bieber concert.

in short ladies, he is the good guy of hockey.
and apparently single, so have at it.

now, i have been saving up for forever to buy myself another hawks jersey when i go to the NHL store in NYC next month.
but a few weeks ago decided sometimes hard earned money is better spent on others and purchased the ever coveted crosby jersey for the munchkin's birthday.

i think he liked it.
he might have even cried.
but shhhh, don't telll.

and as expected, it was the best money i have ever spent.

flashback birthday-day.

when i lived in {small-ish} town, utah the times i got most homesick for a big city were the times i realized there was nothing to do in provo but camp or hike.
after 9pm on a saturday night good luck finding someplace open other than target or the dollar theatre.
let's just say the workers of the orem target knew me and my besties quite well.

needless to say, living back in the big city of civilization is my favorite!
and this year has been nothing short of one amazing experience after another.
many of which i have yet to find the time to share here.
in thinking of allllll the stories i have wrapped in this brain of mine to catch you up on,
AND the fact that today is that little munchkin brother of mine's birthday, i declare a flashback friday birthday special to my favorite day of the year {thus far}.
a day, obviously, shared with the birthday boy.

it was game 4 of the western conference final and we had 2 seats to the showdown between the chicago blackhawks and the los angeles kings.
we ventured up to LA early on in the day to avoid LA traffic and kings krazies.
we spent our afternoon eating, drinking free coke products and happy to discover we are not the only 2 people who go nuts over hockey.

we met some fun people from nhl tonight who took our picture "with the cup."
and after all the tears and smiles and cheers and effort i put into watching those darn games,
i feel like i might as well have won the thing myself.
then, much to our surprise, we were approached by the filming crew for hockey night in canada asking if we wanted to introduce the game for the millions of fans watching back in hockey's native land.
jameson's reactions was, "uhhh...are you from the REAL hockey night in canada?"
he was in shock guys, let's forgive him.
after claiming our 60 seconds of fame,
{i let him have the speaking part, hockey was his thing first}
we headed on into staples center for pre-game warm ups.
we got to be in the FRONT ROW on the ice right next to the tunnel they marched out of.
i was, clearly, in heaven!

after warm-ups we hiked up to our seats, {you don't even want to know how many new pairs of shoes i gave up to afford nosebleed seats during playoff season} ready for the festivities.

the game was WILD!
kings games are...ummm...very LA and just...not my thing.
needless to say i have no desire to ever go to another one.
thankfully hawks fans live ALL over the country and come out by the hundreds if not thousands to any away game possible.
so we had our army behind us.
and the kings fans were...well...about what you would expect kings fans to be.
they laughed at us.
they called us mid-west white trash.
they said completely demeaning comments to us.
but then as if to only be an ending of a dream in our heads, we won!
handing the kings their first loss on home ice of the entire playoff season.

oh how sweet it was to watch our new not-so-friends walk out silent after 60 minutes of game time and nothing less than trash talk.
clearly, we stuck around.  duh.
mainly as not to get shot in the parking lot on our way out.
but also to chat with all the other fans and revel in the victory
the family who took that picture was in LA on vacation and the dad flew from chicago that day just for the game and was flying back that night to be at work the next morning.
best fans in hockey? i think yes.
best day of the year? i know yes.

every time they show highlights from the game on a sports station jameson and i look at each other and scream "we were THERE!"
every once in a while life is kind enough to hand you a perfect night.
this one was one of them.

happy birthday jameson!

me and carrie b.

guys, who does this remind you of?
oh yes, ME!
substitute cosmo for a diet coke and you have the story of my life.
this girl has never met a drive thru she hasn't liked.
just me and carrie b. and all the other girls in the world who store sweaters in our stoves.

{photo courtesy of best friends who text you things that are so you it's scary}

happy endings.

oh how perfectly this sums up the post i have been trying to write forever now,
{yes guys, i got it from a hockey twitter...let a princess be}
but could never really write because...
well, because i can't really tell you about it.

but i will say this:
it has now become more apparent to me than ever before just how incredibly blessed i am.
i am nowhere near where i thought i would be at this point in my life.  and very far off from the cookie cutter dreams i still so deeply long for.
and. i. am. okay. with. that.

i wish i could shout from the rooftops the stories of all the dreamy moments i have had this summer.
but those are just for me.
because not everything is meant to be shared.
but if those someones happen to read this i want them to know how truly inspired i was by the generosity, kindness, happiness and genuine love for life they all took the time to share with me.

some experiences don't end where you wished for them to,
but the ending you get turns out to be the perfect fit.
for sometimes the best moments in life truly are the ones you can't tell anyone about,
but you can share the ways they changed you with the world.

the heart of the matter.

other than a fun button i plan to place on the side panel of this blog, i will rarely channel you over to my alter-sports ranting ego and the articles i write on that site.
i mean, justin bieber taught me to never say never, but it will happen less often than more.
however, my weekend article for SportsRants is regarding a story so near and dear to my heart, that i can't leave it alone without a mention for my readers here.

in the wake of this new found trend in which people want to assume the worst for our world,
i refuse to lose faith in humanity.
especially after researching this story.
the story of one man's {who you might recognize} acceptance of another that taught a team, a community and in turn a nation that the beauty of unconditional love is one of the things that makes all the difference to life.

so hop on over and visit thee other me {here}.
the next person you meet could absolutely change your life.
whether they look the part or not.

when hollywood hits the ice.

while on the topic of weddings,
{it is summer after all}
let's talk about another wedding of two people, but neither of whom i actually know.
however, i feel like i know her because i love her because she loves a man who loves hockey.
got all that?
the bonus here is that hockey weddings tend to actually last,
which isn't necessarily a common thread for many sports unions.
so we can fall in love and die a little bit over this couple without that feeling of wondering if we aren't going to be over it by the time they are.
ya know?

last weekend love, actually lovely elisha cuthbert, {i know she has been in other things, but i forever chose to associate her with my fav movie} married toronto maple leafs captain, dion phaneuf.

here is the rundown of everything that makes me happy about this entire situation:
1. it was a traditional catholic service in a cathedral.
2. her hair.
3. those flowers.
5. they got married on prince edward island.
{and all the anne of green gables fans are swooning in unison}
6. they decorated the chapel with maple leaf saplings a la the royal wedding, and hello? he plays for the maple leafs.
7. this is proof that life does go on after losing in the playoffs.
8. nope, still not over that dress.
9.  his teammates were there, which further proves one of the other things i absolutely LOVE about the sport...these people actually like each other.
{most of them do, anyhow}
10. in a country where hockey is life, they let everyone in on the celebration by walking out the front doors of the church.

happy wedding season.
but perhaps more importantly,
happy 3 months until hockey season!

ever, ever after.

well, the wedding is over and the couple is married and i think at the end of the day that's really all that matters, right?
now despite that fact,
the weekend was FULL of so many fun fun things.
let's just say my brother married into
THEE coolest family in town.
they all had me laughing 'til i coughed up my diet coke the entire weekend long.
i already voted we celebrate all major holidays together as one big family, just so i can get in on more of the fun.
seriously, they would push the kardashian's into a corner and become the new first fam of television if ever presented with the opportunity.
take a look for yourself at what else got us through the days...

friday afternoon we rolled on down to san diego
for the rehearsal dinner.
and because my bro/sissy-in-law are thee coolest cats in town they requested a pizza party...A PIZZA PARTY!
imagine the possibilities and then know it was our reality.

after gorging on pizza and announcing i was going to need to be sewed into my dress the next day, i finished up this fun project with some penmanship.
{thank goodness for those 3rd grade handwriting lessons, right?}
and sweet sara patty caked her way through the night with little summer.

during the ceremony i was on kid watch, summer was excellent in helping me teach eve the ways of the world...first lesson, the importance of a good purse.

ummm...isn't she precious?  this little girl is just as perfect as that perfectly color coordinated outfit would have you think.

then the couple made their big reveal and eve was in on the action.
and can we talk about that dress?
the classiest perfection there is.
isn't sissy a dream?

after pictures and my 3 hour nap {true story} i was in prime form to party with the best table in the place.
so, so, so incredibly blessed to have all these people in our lives!
my little brother and i went to high school with every single one of them, and here they are...10 years later, showing up to my brother's wedding.
{which was an hour and a half away from all of their houses, remember}
yep, i'm lucky.

the best of the best.
sissies for lyfe.

and now you all know where i get my party moves from.
kiks and dad shakin' it on the dance floor.

let's talk about this wedding cake.
i don't like cake, in fact: i hate it.
but i couldn't stop stuffing this into my mouth.
coconut...need i say more?

word to the wise: sis-in-law hates coconut.
naturally, my brother made her eat the biggest piece around.
she was a good sport about it...and that's what makes them perfect for each other.

no matter what life throws at you,
never stop believing that at one point it will give you the happiest beginning possible.
you just have to have a little faith.
and an aunt who is an excellent matchmaker...
 for ever, ever after.
