farewell, nyc.

whether we were ready for it or not, or final day in NYC came fast.
we had had an incredible trip up to that point, and definitely weren't going to waste the last bit of our day.
after deciding not to brave the crowds at Times Square in an attempt to see Taylor Swift perform at 7am, we headed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to waste away our last few moments in the big city with some of the greatest bits of history.

mary cassatt and renoir are my favorite artists...

view from the top of the met, we were SO lucky as they shut it down for winter the week after we left.

my dearest friend MM even stopped in for lunch on the roof and i got to meet her beautiful twin boys, who are seriously just about the most handsome boys you could ever meet.
i would have loved to spend more time with them all!

after our trip to the Met we headed to the airport and officially said goodbye to our concrete jungle.
i cried. a lot of tears.
there is something about that city that just feels so much like home to me.
until next time new york...

you've got the love.

and with the same tune we sang goodbye to carrie, miranda, charlotte, samantha and their New York 8 years ago, tonight was finally the night we bid farewell to my favorite upper east siders: serena, blair, nate, chuck and dan,
and THEIR New York.
it was perfect.
all the stupid plot lines, bad ex-girlfriends of nate archibald and overgrown dan humphrey hairstyles are finally forgiven.
because as the self-professed biggest gg fan in history
i couldn't have ended it better myself...

...and they all lived happily ever after.

love, actually.

because at the end of the day,
so much good still exists in this world.
good people, good moments, good lives.
i just know it.
don't believe me?
all you need is a little faith.

"...and a really great new york": {day 5}

monday, monday, monday.
guys, even the monday's in NYC are better.
who would have thought, right?!?
monday was big in one MAJOR way, but we will get to that later.
we were up and at it again early to get a glimpse of this lovely building before our 10am appt for our bike ride of central park.

this temple is gorgeous.
right across the street from the Empire Hotel.

after nearly killing myself trying to navigate our bikes down the streets of NYC to Central Park, we started the ride...which was by faaarrr one of my favorite parts of the trip.
the best blind decision we made.
if you ever go, pay the money and just do it!

we rode out to see the one fine day fountain {it's technical name is of no importance to me}, Blair's secret spot in the park on Gossip Girl, the Alice in Wonderland Statue {my favorite story of all time}, the Jackie O. Reservoir and the Shakespeare statues.

once we returned our bikes we ran down and over a few blocks to see if we could find where they were supposedly filming the VERY last episode of gossip girl.
i don't think people really understand my deep and very real love for this show.
okay, that is being a little over dramatic.
but probably not any less serious than i actually am.
i started with it on day one, and when the final day comes in a few weeks i will cry.
but just as i once longed to meet oprah {check that off the list} i have always wished i lived in NYC so i could see them filming this show...

now, back to reality.
we ran. ran. and ran some more.
i think my brother thought all the diet coke and lack of sleep from the past few days had handed me a one way ticket to crazy-town.
untillllll we found this...

orange has never really been my color, but...that sign!
we followed the arrows up to the next block and came across Milan, thee home of the VanDerWoodsen clan, as any GG fan would known.
and look who was just sort of standing around outside...Miss SVW herself!
Ivy and Georgina were inside, you can barely see the top of their heads here...still gettin' used to that iPhone. EEK!
we stood across the street for about 10 minutes watching, listening to this trio of upper east side soccer moms chatter about how it is the end of an era, which made me love them with a real life love.
and then it was time for lunch.
so we followed blake lively, very nonchalantly of course, down the street to her lunch spot and continued on to ours.
after lunchie we were slated to hit up the Met, not realizing IT IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS!
we switched our Monday & Tuesday plans around and headed a bit south.
we walked around Mile High Park.
well, JM walked...I sat on a bench and enjoyed the incredibly not pretty view.
c'est la vie!

and as if seeing Blake Lively filming her last episode of Gossip Girl wasn't enough for me in one day, it was finally time to pay homage to the show that taught me sometimes it's okay to have shoes instead of children, wear a coat that doesn't match your dress and that 3 best girlfriends can be your soulmates.
oh and that NYC women don't wear scrunchies, but those from macon, georgia sure do.
we started our self guided sex and the city tour at carrie & miranda's fav yum spot, Magnolia Bakery.
just to finally settle the debate of which coast really makes the best cupcake.

sorry CA, maggie's has ya beat.
in fact, i scarfed that sucker down in one-two-three bites, before JM could even get his camera out in enough time to take a picture.

and then the time finally came for...that porch!
pretty sure JM thought i was out of my mind for going to the carrie doorstep, until we turned the corner of the street to discover, hey! all the other girls in the world go there!
so we got in LINE and waited for my much dreamed about carrie bradshaw moment.

after Perry Street it was snap back to real life time and on to Washington Square park.
where we then shopped our way back to Times Square,
shook it at the Shake Shack,
and turned out the dark with Spiderman.
Holy Hell was it BAD!
but not regrettably bad.
because now i can be one of a handful of extremely cultured people in this world who suffered through it.
and it don't know about you, but i kind of think that's something to be proud of.

just like miranda & steve: nyc {day 4}

our Sunday in NYC was all about Brooklyn.
we started bright and early at church with S, B and Lil Lil.
one thing i love about being a member of the church is you can go anywhere in the world and it's the same.
the feeling is the same and the people are kind and it is enough to start anyday off right.
than we headed off on our 2 mile walk to the Barclay Center, taking note of the fabulous people of the BK's love of Halloween.
i don't really know why or how or when it happened but somewhere between church and basketball on our harmless 2 mile stroll, my mood plummeted to about a 0 and my poor, sweet brother had to be excited about the Brooklyn Nets all by himself while i sat on a bench and observed.
okay, let's be was because i hadn't had my diet coke yet. duh.

after worship and sports we had an amazing lunch with our dear friends and then hopped on the subway toward the shores of Coney Island.
we rode thee ever famed Cyclone,

and wandered a bit around the island...

then we had this einstein of an idea that it would be best if we ate MORE food and hit up Nathan's Hot Dogs.
JM decided it was necessary to put his feet in the Atlantic and I decided it was necessary to go get more Diet Coke...
the man has the patience of a saint, i can tell ya that much.

after CI we went back to Carol Gardens and met S, B, and Lil Lil to go walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
dear MM recommended we walk it from the Brooklyn side so we can see the view of the NYC skyline, rather than the Brooklyn one.
genius much?!?

 {this baby was my bestie for the week, love this little lady}

we had a blast on the Miranda & Steve Bridge, and mom refers to it, and then went straight back home to enjoy our best meal of the trip,
namely our around the world frozen cocktail dinner.
S might kill me for shouting this out on the blog because i'm pretty sure we all took an oath before eating that we would never tell, but it was seriously the best.
kinda like our good old college days.
we raided the freezer and cooked every concoction we could find in that house, added a side of diet coke and it was the end to our perfect "restful" day.

i want you back.

lately i have become entirely re-obsessed with this show,
like first season status.
i will be the FIRST person to tell you it went by the wayside in season 2.
i stopped watching.
i think you stopped watching.
i even wrote an i'm never gonna love this show again post about it.
and then something happened called season 4 and i am back to crying during musical numbers, loving my old fav characters again and actually caring what happens in the story line, rather than just watching to see what they sing.
holy oh my!

{remember the outfits from the first song in the first episode...full circle}

{pretty sure kate hudson looking like that after 2 kids is enough to make you never eat again}

the glease episode is by far and away the best ever done.
yes, that would include the if you didn't cry you have no heart grinch christmas epsiode way back when.
as you can see, a few things have changed...
a few breakups.
a new choir teacher.
a few new glee members.
a couple of famous new friends.
and rachel finally said goodbye to sweaters and knee socks.
so just like that...they have me eating out of the palm of their talented little hands again.

thee lucky one.

birthdays. birthdays. birthdays.
i am no stranger to a good celebration, but usually in the way of someone else.
ever the party planner, never the attendee.
which is exactly the way i prefer it.
when it comes to my own birthday,
dear gracious can i be a grump!
lucky for moi, i have a girl gang {as my mother calls them} who forever keep me from being able to be anything but happy & celebrating. weeeeeeee!

we began how all good birthday's truly begin...a middle of the night Twilight screening.
yes, i'm turning 26, no judgement please.

dear Marge kicked friday off good with a VIP lunchie at Houston's restaurant in Irvine,
and then a card that made me cry and cupcakes that made the chubby kid that surely lives inside me cheer for joy.

friday night belonged to my other office divas, kimmie k. & trena b.
KK decided to do it like Katy P. does it and made T do her makeup while she was laying down in bed.
a girl after my own heart.

all dressed up, our somewhere to go was laguna beach!
my girlies took me to my favorite mexican food place and kicked things off with our favorite drinks...
and ended it with fried ice cream and a birthday wish...

this morning i woke up with instructions to be ready by 9:30am for bff Rach to pick me up and whisk me away for a day full of epic surprise.
we started with my favorite breakfast.
don't let anyone say i'm high maintenance so long as i shall live.
with $4.35 you can make me just as happy as putting a pair of manolos in my hand.

rach then proceeded to blindfold me for a loonnggg drive to heaven only knows where.
i had us just about to TJ when we parked and i was un-blinded to...
if this location is strange and unfamiliar to you we probably can't continue with our friendship until you check it out {here}.
katie c. is my queen of queens and her show is nothing less that complete happiness, let alone a sure tale that proves hard work can get you exactly where you dream of being.

i was like a little girl in an american girl doll store for the next 2 hours!
the decor made me giddy with girly holiday delight...

{so i took pictures in the bathroom, you would too}

{you get water in wine glasses with your polish}

{my nail tech lauren, new soul sister for lyfe}
don't worry, the gals invited us to their christmas party in december and we WILL. BE. THERE.

after my reluctance to leave this little slice of heaven,
we ventured down the 101 for surprise #3 of the day,
lunchie at STACKED annnnnddddd, our other best friend!!
seems like jr. high was just yesterday...actually not, but it sounds really great when you say things like that.

the restaurant was super fancy and fun.
you create your meal from scratch and order on ipads because paper menus are apparently a thing of the past.

and the surprise day ended with my favorite black bag, a side of diet coke and another wish.

i may not be exactly where i once thought i would be at almost 26, but i'm right where i'm meant to be.
surrounded by people who make my world go round.
i have always been and can only hope to continue to be surrounded by incredibly passionate, fun, loving, generous, happy people.
i am lucky.
oh so very, very lucky.
and you know what...i wouldn't trade it for all the money, houses, husbands and kids in the world.

xoxo, the birthday girl.
